The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry announces search for JAACAP Open Editor

JAACAP

The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) is seeking a dedicated and energetic visionary to serve as Editor of JAACAP Open, the Academy’s new peer-reviewed, open-access journal. Dr. Manpreet K. Singh, currently serving as JAACAP Open Editor, was appointed for an inaugural 3-year term (2022-2024) to facilitate launch of the new publication. AACAP is now conducting a competitive search process to identify an Editor to serve a 5-year term beginning January 2025. The Editor must possess leadership skills to sustain and further develop JAACAP Open as a prominent interdisciplinary forum in child and adolescent psychiatry, delivering timely and accurate information to this and related disciplines.

JAACAP Open is currently published in collaboration with Elsevier. The JAACAP Editor-in-Chief oversees and bears responsibility for the overall publishing portfolio, including JAACAP, JAACAP Open, and JAACAP Connect. The JAACAP Open Editor reports to the Editor-in-Chief.

JAACAP Open aims to provide outstanding peer-review and efficient dissemination of articles to our global readership. Building on the values and prominence of its companion journal, JAACAP Open promotes dissemination of scientific work from a broad array of original hypothesis-testing and hypothesis-generating, and mixed methods investigations, meta-analyses, reviews, and pre-registered reports in domains relevant to child, adolescent, and family mental health such as basic, translational, clinical, epidemiologic, health policy, population science, and global health research.

Qualifications

AACAP encourages applications from interested and qualified Academy members from diverse backgrounds. Other prerequisites for the JAACAP Open Editor include a record of significant scholarly achievement; familiarity with the literature in the field, clinical research design, and basic concepts of statistics and ethics of research; administrative and editorial skills, including familiarity with online peer review systems; capacity for detailed and deadline-dependent work; an understanding of the national and international community of scholars and practitioners; and strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills. Click here for a full list of job requirements and duties.

The candidate selected for the JAACAP Open Editor role may participate in research grants from industry. However, the Editor cannot receive any direct financial benefit. Any funding awarded must be directed to the candidate’s university or academic medical center.

Search Process

AACAP’s Ad Hoc Committee on Editorship and Publications is overseeing the search for the JAACAP Open Editor. Matthew State, MD, PhD leads the Ad Hoc Committee as Chair. Other members include: Lisa Fortuna, MD, Sandra Fritsch, MD, Kevin Gray, MD, Douglas Novins, MD, Hanna Stevens, MD, PhD, and Karen Dineen Wagner, MD, PhD. The Ad Hoc Committee will select top candidates from the pool of applicants who’ve submitted a letter of interest and required materials. These top candidates will be invited to present a full application for the position of JAACAP Open Editor and participate in a face-to-face interview in Denver, Colorado in the Spring 2024. The AACAP Ad Hoc Committee on Editorship and Publications will recommend a candidate for approval by the AACAP President and AACAP Council in June 2024.

Application Requirements

The Ad Hoc Committee is accepting letters of interest from potential candidates. Interested parties must submit the following:

  • One page summary statement of approximately 300 words describing interest in the position and thoughts on future advancements for JAACAP
  • Curriculum vitae
  • One letter of recommendation
  • Disclosures
